Eryk Wins at Runcorn.

The other paddlers were no match for Eryk Marcinkowski who raced away from the rest of the field to win the division 5 race at the Runcorn Hasler marathon in convincing style on Sunday. Eryk was the only competitor paddling a canadian but he had no problems with the awkward water conditions on the first half-mile of the course or with the head wind over the last 4 miles.

Jake Oldfield finished 2nd in a combined division 2 and 3 race, just being pipped at the post in a sprint finish. Mark Tidman finished 5th in the same race. Another second place was achieved by Roger Williams in division 6 who out-sprinted Bob Scholey over the last 100m, leaving Bob to come in 3rd a few seconds behind.

Despite these good results Chester could only finish joint 4th in the table of North West clubs. To do better we need more paddlers out at these regional Hasler races, then we might be in with a chance of qualifying for the Hasler Final in September. Remember only two clubs from the North West qualify to compete at the final
